Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators' offense was quieted for the second straight game, but the pitching staff came through with a tremendous performance Wednesday. The Senators edged the Erie SeaWolves, 2-1, in 10 innings on a walk-off single by Jorge Padilla.
Starter Bobby Brownlie went seven strong innings to keep the Senators in the game. He allowed a run on five hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out a pair. He gave up a run in the top of the third on an RBI single by Will Rhymes.
The Senators struck back in the bottom of the fourth when Jorge Padilla sliced an RBI double down the right-field line to plate Marco Yepez. A walk loaded the bases with one out, but Erie starter Jon Connolly induced an inning-ending double play to keep it a 1-1 game.
The game stayed scoreless and went into extra innings thanks to three scoreless relief innings from Jim Ed Warden, who picked up the win. The Senators broke through in a strange bottom of the 10th. Ian Desmond hit a pop-up down the right-field line, but the SeaWolves' second baseman collided with the base umpire and the ball dropped foul. Desmond looped a single to left, Mike Daniel drew a walk and Marco Yepez bunted his way on when the SeaWolves made an error to load the bases with nobody out. Erie called on right-hander Matt Rusch, who retired the first batter he faced, but Jorge Padilla punched a 1-2 pitch through a drawn-in infield to plate the winning run.
Juan Cedeno (1-1) took the loss for Erie, which drops to 5-2 on the season. The Senators up their record to 4-2 and have won both of their first two series of the season.
The Senators hit the road for their first trip of the season starting Thursday. They take on the Trenton Thunder for four games and then head to Reading for a three-game series against the Phillies. The Senators return to Commerce Bank Park for a seven-game homestand beginning Thursday, April 17th.
