Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets had just one on-field representative at Tuesday night's South Atlantic League All-Star game in Charleston, West Virginia, but make no mistake, the Jackets were well-represented.

Juan Perez hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat of the game in the sixth inning on Tuesday night in the Southern Division's 8-7 loss to their counterparts from the North. Perez went 1-2 with a strikeout in his only other plate appearance. At the time, the Perez blast gave the Southern Division a 5-4 lead in the contest.

Perez, who played four innings of second base for the Southern Division, also made the finals of the Home Run Derby prior to Tuesday's Midsummer Classic. Although he made the finals of the eight-man event with five home runs in the first round, Perez fell to West Virginia's Calvin Anderson who stole the show with eight home runs in the three-man final. Perez hit just two in the last round to finish behind Anderson and the event's other finalist, Ben Lasater from Greensboro.

In addition to Perez, the GreenJackets were represented by trainer LJ Petra and pitcher Daniel Runzler, who was unable to participate as a result of his promotion to San Jose of the California League two weeks ago.

The GreenJackets begin their second half tonight at home against the Rome Braves. Augusta took three of four from Rome to end the first half and will play two more with the Braves to open up the second half before traveling to Rome for three games at State Mutual Stadium beginning Saturday. First pitch for the second half opener tonight is 7:05 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50. You may purchase seats to tonight's game and every home game by calling 706-922-WINS or online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
