Peoria Chiefs News Release
The Chiefs fell to the Quad Cities River Bandits 5-2 on Sunday to settle for a series split against the division leader.
The game started out as a pitchers duel as both pitchers started out strong. Michael YaSenka retired his first nine batters faced, including six straight strikeouts at one point, but ran into a bit of trouble in the fourth inning. Quad Cities drew first blood off an RBI double and a two-run homer to jump out to a 3-0 advantage.
Peoria put their first run on the board in the top of the sixth inning off Jordan Walker's second homer in as many days to cut the River Bandits lead to 3-1. Quad Cities answered back with a RBI double by Michael Massey half-inning and a solo homer by John Rave in the seventh inning to take a 5-1 edge.
The Chiefs chipped in a run in the eighth inning. The frame was kickstarted by a leadoff double from Matt Chamberlain. Chamberlain advanced to third base on a groundout to second base and scored on a wild pitch to make it a 5-2 ballgame. Peoria failed to mount a threat in the ninth inning, earning Quad Cities a series split.
The Chiefs will be off tomorrow before returning to Dozer Park on Tuesday for a series against the Beloit Snappers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
