
Pensacola Uses Shootout to Best Columbus, 5-4

Nick Larson netted the deciding goal for the Pensacola Ice Flyers in the shootout as Ice Flyers prevailed over the Columbus Cottonmouths, 5-4 (3-2 SO).
The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Columbus' shootout goals were scored by Bryce Williamson and Neilsson Arcibal. Pensacola also got shootout goals from Nick McParland and Brett Lutes.
The Ice Flyers came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Pensacola fell behind 3-0 after a power play goal by the Cottonmouths' Levi Lind at 15:44 in the first period. The Ice Flyers knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by McParland at 17:14 in the third period.
Pensacola's offense was clicking better than usual and put 31 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22.6 shots per game it averages.
The Ice Flyers were helped by Adam Pawlick, who tallied one goal. Pawlick scored 19 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-3 Columbus. Others who scored for Pensacola included Lutes and Brett Beebe, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Nick Lazorko and Brandon Blair, who contributed one each.
Columbus' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Pensacola power plays. By firing 38 shots on goal, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 28.9 shots they average per game this year.
Columbus was helped by Shawn Bates, who registered one goal and one assist. Bates scored short handed 19:22 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Columbus. A roughing call on Lind put the Cottonmouths on the penalty kill. Louis Belisle picked up the assist. Columbus additionally got points from Lind, who also had one goal and one assist and Nick Curry, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Andy Willigar also scored for Columbus.
Max Strang took the win and made 22 saves before being replaced by John McLean who made 12 saves. Pensacola incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Columbus' Andrew Loewen stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Cottonmouths incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
