Lafayette, La.--This is one New Year that the Louisiana IceGators would like to forget.

After leading 2-1 at the end of the second period, the IceGators allowed five goals in the third period to fall to the Pensacola IceFlyers 6-2. Joshua Turnbull led the way for the IceFlyers by scoring two goals. Adam Pawlick contributed a goal and an assist.

The IceGators return to the Cajundome Friday night to take on the Huntsville Havoc. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

"When you play only 20 minutes of hockey, you aren't going to win," said IceGators head coach Kevin Kaminski. "We're like Jekyll and Hyde right now. We don't know which team is going to show up. We came out flat during the first, so I had a talk with them during the intermission. They responded by playing an excellent second period. Then we gave up five in third.

"The care factor wasn't there tonight. If I were Tyler Barr or Jeff Grant, I'd be angry after going to war for my team and have them turn around with that kind of effort. Their fights changed the momentum in the game, and we didn't build off it."

Turnbull scored the first goal of the game on a power play at the 4:43 mark of the first period.

Matt Robertson tied the game off assists from Jason Cohen and Joe Cangelosi at the 5:42 mark of the second period. Adam Stuart gave the IceGators the lead on a short-handed goal at the 10:03 mark after taking a feed from Shawn McNeil during a two-on-one opportunity.

Then the bottom dropped out for the IceGators. Turnbull, Malcolm Lyles, Corey Banfield, Pawlick, and Mackenzie Micks all scored in the third period to hand the IceGators their second straight loss.

Kaminski says he's becoming frustrated with his team's inconsistent performance.

"I'm getting tired of having to come into the locker room and having to threaten the guys with bag skates," Kaminski said. "I shouldn't have to do that. They need to find their pride, passion, heart, and character. I know it's there. It's in the locker room. But if we want to be number one, we have to prove it."
