Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, Colo. - Andrew Penner, a goaltender for the Governors' Cup champion Colorado Eagles, has auctioned off his goalie mask from the 2008-09 season in an effort to raise money for a disease close to his heart -- breast cancer.

Penner's mother is a breast cancer survivor and, following the season, his pink ribbon-mask was auctioned off on the Eagles' Web site with the proceeds to be split between the U.S.-based Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

The goalie mask brought in $1,525 through the online auction that ended this morning and the Colorado Eagles Foundation has matched that amount to bring the total to $3,050.

"This is obviously a cause that's very close to my heart and to raise the amount of money that we did is just awesome," said Penner. "I want to thank the Eagles for all of their help and support. I came to them with an idea and they helped me run with it, and it really reflects their commitment to the community and to giving back in general."
