Dusters game preview: Amarillo @ Iowa
May 22, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 5/22/09 - The Amarillo Dusters will seek their second straight victory of the season, and their first road win, as they travel to central Iowa for the first time in team history, to take on the Iowa Barnstormers Saturday night at 7:05 PM.
Amarillo (1-6), will rely on their defense and ability to create turnovers tomorrow night. Last week, the defense forced 4 takeaways. Interceptions by Dusters linebacker John King, defensive back Myron Newberry, and fumble recoveries from Stanley Smith and Gerard Lewis helped push Amarillo to victory.
Iowa (4-3), meanwhile, won last week to break out of a 3-game losing streak. The Barnstormers bring experience to the table. With just 5 rookies on the active roster, Iowa has compiled 32 af2 seasons played to Amarillo's 16. Iowa also boats the af2's best rush defense in the league, allowing an average of only 9.7 yards a game.
The matchup of the night will be between Amarillo defensive back Myron Newberry and Iowa wide receiver Tim Dodge. Newberry, a 2-time Aaron's defensive player of the game through 7 contests this season, will look to shut down one of Iowa's top offensive weapons. Dodge has averaged 77.6 yards per game, earning 9 touchdown receptions this season.
Fans can tune in to coverage of the game on 107.1 KPUR-FM in Amarillo, and can watch the contest via a free webcast through af2TV. Go to www.dustersfootball.com for more information.
