Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that their NHL affiliate, the Pittsburgh Penguins, will hold a portion of their training camp in Wilkes-Barre, according to Penguins' CEO Jeff Barrett.

The Penguins are scheduled to hold training camp at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza from September 20-24. Pittsburgh will arrive in Wilkes-Barre on Monday, September 19 and will hold its first on-ice workouts on Tuesday, September 20. A complete training camp schedule will be announced at a later date.

"It's going to be exciting to have Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Arena for five days," said Barrett. "Pittsburgh has thoroughly enjoyed its experience in northeastern Pennsylvania in the past and are looking forward to spending part of training camp here as the team prepares for the 2005-06 season."

This will mark the fourth time that the Penguins have held a portion of training camp in Wilkes-Barre. The Penguins held part of training camp in Wilkes-Barre in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

In addition, the Penguins will be playing two preseason games at Wachovia Arena. The Penguins will play host to the Boston Bruins on Wednesday, Sept. 21 and the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, Sept. 24.

"This is an exciting opportunity for the hockey fans of northeastern Pennsylvania to see the stars of the National Hockey League again," added Barrett. "Along with a part of training camp being held here, the Penguins have scheduled two exciting preseason games we believe the fans will enjoy.

"The Penguins will play the Bruins, an NHL Original Six team and a franchise with a storied hockey tradition, and the Ottawa Senators, one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. The hockey fans in this area will be treated to the best that the NHL has to offer and they deserve it."

Ticket information for the two games will be announced later this month.
