
Penguins Sign RW Dennis Bonvie

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed free agent forward Dennis Bonvie to a multi-year American Hockey League contract, it was announced today by Penguins' CEO Jeff Barrett. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.
Bonvie, 32, appeared in a career-high 76 games last season with Hershey (AHL), recording 18 points (4+14) and 357 penalty minutes. He ranked second in the league in penalty minutes and fourth in major penalties (35). The 357 penalty minutes were the most in a season for Bonvie since the 1996-97 campaign, when he set a then league record for penalty minutes in a season (522). Binghamton's Chris McGrattan broke Bonvie's penalty minute record with 551 penalty minutes in 2004-05.
In two seasons with the Bears (2003-2005), Bonvie recorded 27 points (7+20) and 511 penalty minutes in 106 games. He was acquired by Colorado from Ottawa in exchange for Charlie Stephens on January 23, 2004.

The 5'11", 205-pound native of Antigonish, Nova Scotia has appeared in 693 AHL games, including 107 with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins from 1999-2001. In two seasons, he recorded 54 points (10+44) and 464 penalty minutes and helped lead the Penguins to the 2001 Calder Cup Finals.
After splitting the 1998-99 between Portland (AHL), Philadelphia (AHL) and Chicago (NHL), Bonvie was signed by Pittsburgh on September 20, 1999 and appeared in 28 games with the Penguins, recording no points and 80 penalty minutes. Bonvie, who started the season in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recorded 31 points (5+26) and a team-high 243 penalty minutes in 42 games.
He started the 2000-01 season in Pittsburgh, and appeared in three games, before spending the remainder of the season in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Bonvie recorded 23 points (5+18) and 221 penalty minutes in 65 games during the regular season and collected four assists and 35 penalty minutes in 21 playoff games.
During his 12-year pro career, he has recorded 245 points (78+167) and 3,673 penalty minutes in the AHL with Cape Breton, Hamilton, Portland, Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Providence, Binghamton and Hershey. The AHL's all-time penalty minute leader, Bonvie set the record against the Penguins at Wachovia Arena on February 25, 2003.
He has also appeared in 92 NHL games with Edmonton, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston, Ottawa and Colorado, collecting three points (1+2) and 311 penalty minutes.
Bonvie was signed as a free agent by the Oilers on August 25, 1994 after recording 38 points (4+34) and 600 penalty minutes in 120 games in the Ontario Hockey League with Kitchener and North Bay.
