Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will be holding several fundraising ventures during the preseason, in an effort to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
"Hurricane Katrina tore apart an entire region, and has affected thousands of families throughout the southern United States," said Penguins President Rich Hixon. "However, it has also brought together people from across the country that wish to help out those less fortunate. We are just trying to do our small part in the relief efforts."
Representatives from the Red Cross will be stationed outside Wachovia Arena prior to the Pittsburgh Penguins' two exhibition games against the Boston Bruins (Wednesday, Sept. 21) and Ottawa Senators (Saturday, Sept. 24), collecting cash donations for the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.
Additionally, the Penguins will be raffling off a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey autographed by team captain and NHL Hall of Fame member, Mario Lemieux, during the Boston game, and a stick autographed by the entire Pittsburgh team during the Ottawa game. All proceeds from the raffles will be given to the Red Cross.
The relief efforts will continue before the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' three preseason contests, with the Salvation Army collecting monetary donations and non-perishable food items, which will be distributed to victims of the hurricane who have been temporarily relocated to Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The Penguins will also be holding a number of auctions featuring autographed jerseys during their exhibition games against the Hershey Bears on Sunday, Sept. 25, the Syracuse Crunch on Wednesday, Sept. 28 and the Binghamton Senators on Saturday, Oct. 1, with all proceeds going to the Salvation Army's relief efforts.
In addition, for every ticket sold to the Saturday, Oct. 1 game against the Binghamton Senators through TicketMaster of the Wachovia Arena Box Office, the Penguins will donate $3.00 to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
To purchase tickets to this game, or any of the Penguins' preseason contests, call (570) 693-4100, log on to www.ticketmaster.com or visit the Wachovia Arena Box Office.
