Penguins Edge Whale in Overtime

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton defenseman Joe Morrow found the back of the net with 53 seconds left in overtime to give the Penguins a 2-1 win over the Connecticut Whale at Mohegan Sun Arena.
After two periods came and went without a goal, the Penguins and Whale traded power play goals early in the third. Chad Kolarik struck against his former team to make it 1-0 at 4:16, taking a backdoor pass from Trevor Smith and one-timing it inside the near post.
Almost immediately after the go-ahead goal, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was assessed back-to-back penalties to give Connecticut a 5-on-3 advantage. Controlling the puck on the near circle, Kris Newbury whizzed a pass through the slot that hit Brandon Segal on the tape for the wrist shot past a sprawled out Jeff Zatkoff.
The two teams would head to overtime where the Penguins would clinch the win with 53 seconds remaining. Stepping into the circle for an offensive zone faceoff, Smith won the puck back to the blueline where Morrow gained possession and waited for a screen to set in front of Cam Talbot before flicking his third of the season to the back of the net.
Zatkoff went to 17-15-0 on the season as he turned aside 26-of-27 shots from Connecticut. Talbot made 30 saves for the Whale, who suffered their fifth overtime loss of the season.
