Portland Pirates News Release

Worcester, MA - The Portland Pirates, winners of 2 straight, will look to make it three in a row as they travel to Worcester to take on the Sharks. Puck drop is set for 7 pm as the Pirates look to keep pace with the red-hot Providence Bruins for the Atlantic Division lead.

The Pirates are coming off an impressive 6-1 win over the St. John's IceCaps for their final regular season game at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée. Mike Lee was stellar once again, stopping 31 of 32 shots and allowing the lone IceCaps goal with just 30 seconds left in regulation. Chris Brown supplies 2 goals for the Pirates, with Alexandre Bolduc, Evan Brophey, Phil Lane, and Brendan Shinnimin also scoring for the Pirates. Michael Stone, called up this week to the Phoenix Coyotes, also chipped in with 3 assists and a +/- rating of +5 for the game. The win capped a 5-1 record this season at the Colisée, with all 5 Pirates wins coming in front of sold-out crowds.

Worcester dropped a 7-2 decision at the DCU Center last night to the Manchester Monarchs and currently sit 10 points back of the second place Pirates in the Atlantic Division. Matt Tennyson and Jon Matsumoto had the Sharks goals with Harri Sateri taking the loss after stopping 24 saves on 31 shots.

Portland holds a 6-3 advantage in the season series over the Sharks, and have won the last 5 contests against Worcester. Their last meeting was a 3-2 shootout victory for the Pirates in Portland, with Mike Lee registering his second perfect shootout for the Pirates, stopping all 5 shooters. Chris Brown had the game winner in the 4th shootout frame, with Rob Klinkhammer and Ethan Werek scoring the regulation goals for Portland. Lee also had 36 saves during regulation and overtime for the Pirates.
