Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward John McCarron to an American Hockey League contract for the 2015-16 season.
McCarron joins the Penguins organization after four seasons at Cornell University. In his time at Cornell, McCarron scored 24 goals and 40 assists for 64 points in 131 games. McCarron was a two-time captain for the Big Red, becoming the first Cornell player since 2001 to earn the honor before his senior season (Stephen Bâby).
Cornell made its lone NCAA Tournament appearance of McCarron's tenure during his freshman season, where the Macomb, Michigan native scored his team's first goal in an eventual 3-2 upset victory over the No. 2 overall seed University of Michigan.
McCarron was originally a sixth-round selection (153rd overall) of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Prior to attending Cornell, McCarron played two full seasons with the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League, recording 85 points (33G-52A) in 137 games and also participating in the 2011 USHL All-Star Game.
McCarron is the older brother of Michael McCarron, the Montréal Canadiens' first-round pick (25th overall) in 2013.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton season ticket packages, including full season memberships, 22-game, 12-game and Flexbook plans, are available by contacting the Penguins directly at 570-208-7367.
