
Penalties a Killer in 6-3 Loss to Titan

A late game push was not enough to overcome a first period plagued by penalties for the Saint John Sea Dogs (13-10-3-1) as they took on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan (16-8-1-1) for an Easter Sunday matinee. Peter Reynolds, Brady Burns, and Jérémie Poirier found the back of the net in the 6-3 loss at TD Station.
Zachary Emond and Chad Arsenault started in net, Emond making 31 saves and Arsenault stopping 33 of the Sea Dogs shots.
A penalty laden first period for both sides started with a double minor to Charlie DesRoches for high sticking at 2:47. William Villeneuve joined him in the box for delay of game with 2:03 remaining in first penalty. The Titan scored on the resulting 5-on-3, taking the lead at 6:06.
Zachary Alchorn was sent to the box, 2 minutes for high sticking at 7:01. Titan captain Mathieu DesGagnés made it 2-0 34 seconds into the power play.
With 6:31 remaining in the first, Peter Reynolds picked up a rebound off a shot attempt from Jérémie Poirier and dumped the puck into the open side of the net, scoring the Sea Dogs' first goal of the afternoon.
Penalties to Ryan Francis for slashing and Jaxon Bellamy for roughing sent both off for two minutes play went to 4-on-4. Cole Huckins was sent off for roughing and the Sea Dogs received a 4-on-3 power play for 39 seconds.
Tensions continued to rise during the period culminating in a hit with 18 seconds remaining that led to some shoving and ultimately four players were sent off for the resulting scrum. Nathan Drapeau and Riley Kidney for unsportsmanlike conduct and Nicholas Girouard and Bennett MacArthur for roughing.
Shots were 13-10 Saint John after the first.
Sam Dow was sent off for roughing at 4:52. Logan Chisholm scored his second of the afternoon, making it 3-1 on the power play. A minute later a wrist shot from Cole Huckins found its way past Emond and the Titan got a 4-1 lead that they would take into the final frame.
Shots after the second were 25-19 for the Titan.
Brady Burns cut the Titan lead to two early in the third period, ripping a wrist shot past Arsenault from the top of the circle off a faceoff win from Josh Lawrence.
Adam McCormick was sent off for a tripping penalty at 3:11. Jérémie Poirier converted on the power play, picking up the loose puck after a scramble in front of the net and firing it to the back of the net.
Bathurst's Jacob Melanson added another to the scoreboard at 11:36 and Mathieu Desgagnés flipped the puck over Emond's shoulder at 15:53 increasing the Titan lead to the final score of 6-3.
Final shot count was 37-36 for the Titan.

The Sea Dogs will head down to Moncton to take on the Wildcats on Wednesday, April 7 before returning home to play the Titan the next night, April 8.
