Pelicans win Edinburg series rubber match

Three Pelicans pitchers were used to complete the three hit shut-out while the Pelicans hitters pounded out 11 runs on 17 hits, easily beating the Edinburg Roadrunners 11-0.

Pelicans starting pitcher Santos Hernandez was on his "A" game from the first pitch. He finished allowing no runs on only two hits while striking out seven in six innings. With the victory he earned his eighth win of the season. Robbie Hebert and Bubba Dobson came on in relief of Hernandez to finish off the Roadrunners.

The Pelicans got on the board early and often, scoring a run in all but two innings. The first inning was the biggest scoring frame for the Pelicans as they scored three runs on four hits by Carlos Mendoza, Larry Bethea, Nestor Smith and Juan Rocha.

The second and third innings both saw the Pelicans post a two spot on the scoreboard making the score 7-0 in favor of the Pelicans.

In the fourth inning, Pensacola added one more run when Joe Espada singled and then moved around to score after three consecutive wild pitches.

Pensacola added one more run in the 6th and two more in the 7th making the final score 11-0.

On the night, every Pelicans hitter had at least one hit. Larry Bethea and Nestor Smith each finished with three hits and Espada, Rafael Alvarez, Rocha and George Branch all finished with two hits a piece.

With the win, Pensacola improves to 16-15 in the second half and 45-33 overall.
