Pensacola Pelicans News Release
Pensacola Pelicans Manager Mac Seibert is busy putting together his team for the 2008 season, which begins on May 8 against the Lincoln Saltdogs. Seibert, along with the other league managers, was in Fort Worth, TX for the annual American Association try-out camp. Seibert and the Pelicans announced today that they selected right-handed pitcher Tyler French and outfielder Joe Hicks from the try-out camp.
French and Hicks were two of the eight players selected in this year's draft. In total, more than 100 players participated in the try-out.
Tyler French played last season with the Texas Heat in the Continental Baseball League. He finished with 3-2 record and 49 strikeouts in 47.2 innings of work. Prior to his professional career, French played at Western Oregon University.
"Tyler has an excellent breaking pitch, better than the Major League average," commented Seibert. "He will add a spot to our bullpen."
Joe Hicks originally signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization where he played for five seasons.
"Joe is a fine athlete with above average speed," said Seibert.
Season tickets, party deck, and suite rentals are for sale by calling the Pelicans office at 850-934-8444 or by visiting www.pensacolapelicans.com.
