Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans announced today that they have acquired outfielder Chaz Lytle in a trade with the St. Paul Saints for the 2007 season.

Lytle began his professional baseball career in 2002 with the Pittsburgh Pirates after playing at the University of Georgia.

"Chaz will bring some needed speed in the outfield and on the bases," said Pelicans Manager Mac Seibert. "He has good plate discipline and finds a way to get on base and make things happen."

The Lake Mary, FL resident is a career .295 hitter with 42 doubles, 6 triples, 117 RBI, and 184 stolen bases. Lytle's highlight season came in 2003 while with the single-A Hickory Crawdads. He finished with a .335 batting average, 11 doubles, 3 triples, 42 RBI and 22 stolen bases. His .335 batting average was the best in the league.

Last season with the Saints, Lytle hit .297 with 7 doubles and 16 stolen bases in only 44 games.

In exchange for Lytle, the Pelicans traded the reversionary rights of right-handed pitcher Tony Pierce.

In another Pelicans transaction, the Pelicans sold outfielder Ed Montague to the Atlantic City Surf of the Atlantic League.
