Cats re-sign RHP Danny Valentin

The Cats have re-signed right-handed pitcher Danny Valentin, it was announced today.

Valentin, 29, appeared in 13 games for the Cats in 2006 after being signed on July 4. He started five games and was 4-1 with a 3.89 ERA in 44 innings of work. He won two playoff games for the Cats, going 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA. He was the winning pitcher in Game 4 of both the division and championship series.

Valentin started two games for Sioux Falls in May of last season and was 0-1 as he allowed 16 runs in 6 2/3 innings. He appeared in eight games in the United League with Laredo and was 1-1 with a save and a 3.44 ERA.

He pitched in 2004 and 2005 for Edinburg in the Central League. He had back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2003 and 2004 and had the fourth-lowest ERA (2.51) in 2003 while pitching for Rio Grande Valley. He was a career minor league record of 30-19.

Valentin was born in Teaneck, N.J. and was now resides in Brandon, Fla.
