Kinston Indians News Release

A powerful, Pelican, pitching, performance killed the K-Tribe Saturday night at Grainger Stadium. The 8-0 Myrtle Beach win was the first shutout suffered by Kinston this season. Myrtle Beach jumped all over Kinston in the top of the first inning, scoring five runs on four hits. Gorkys Hernandez and Jon Mark Owings hit two home runs to highlight the big Myrtle Beach inning. The five in the first were all the Pelicans needed as pitcher Thomas Hanson was once again brilliant. Hanson pitched six scoreless innings, giving up just one hit while striking out six. Hanson has not given up an earned run in his first 22 innings of work this season. Hanson has giving up a total of just five hits through his first four starts.

Kinston starter Carlton Smith picked up the loss, giving up seven hits and five earned runs through six and one-third innings of work. Erik Stiller finished the game for Kinston, giving up an earned run in two and two-thirds innings of relief. Stiller struck out four.

Kinston returns to Grainger Stadium for game four of the four game set Sunday afternoon at 2pm. Jeanmar Gomez takes the mound for Kinston.
