Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Pelicans will hold National Anthem and Public Address tryouts among other entertaining activities during Fan Fest on Saturday, March 7 at BB&T Coastal Field. The gates will open at 10am with activities including ballpark amusements for the kids as well a scavenger hunt and catch on the field. Pelicans team mascot Splash will be on hand to take pictures and sign autographs and you can get a glimpse of Deuce as he goes through his own spring training to gear up for the season.

National Anthem contestants will be asked to perform the anthem a capella for a panel of celebrity judges. All contestants will have the opportunity to perform as individuals or as part of a group. The Pelicans welcome choirs and bands and strongly encourage those groups to try out. Pre-registration is preferred, but on-site registration will also be available for interested performers. To pre-register for the Pelicans National Anthem Tryouts, e-mail Pelicans Director of Community Relations Julie Borshak at jborshak@myrtlebeachpelicans.com. Contestants unable to attend the open tryout are eligible by sending an audio CD or cassette to the Pelicans National Anthem Tryouts at 1251 21st Ave. North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

Those interested in becoming the next PA voice of BB&T Coastal Field will have a chance to show off their vocals as well. Pre-registration is also strongly encouraged for the public address position by e-mail to the Pelicans Director of In-Game Entertainment Jake White at jwhite@myrtlebeachpelicans.com. Those competing for the season-long position will be required to read a sample script, introduce partial starting lineups and announce one in-game batter introduction. Candidates will be judged by members of Pelicans staff and the winner will be announced at a later date.

"The National Anthem tryout is something we've always done and the fans really seem to have a good time with it," said Pelicans General Manager North Johnson. "We thought adding the PA tryout would be a nice wrinkle as well giving fans the opportunity to get closer to the Pelicans organization. I'm really looking forward to seeing the talent that's out there."

Other 2009 Fan Fest activities include free guided tours of BB&T Coastal Field. Pelicans representatives will lead the tours allowing fans to get a behind the scenes look at the park including the home and visiting clubhouses. Refreshments will be available including free popcorn and drinks and hot dogs will be available for just $1.

Fans will also be able to sign up for the Pelicans Booster Club and kids can get registered for the '09 Kids Club. The Pelicans will have merchandise specials in the Pro Shop so fans can get the latest apparel to prepare for the upcoming season. Those who have purchased season tickets or mini plans are encouraged to stop by and pick up their packages as well. Single-game tickets will also be on sale allowing fans to purchase tickets for Opening Day, July 4 and to see Jerome Bettis on April 14.

The Pelicans open the 2009 season on Thursday, April 9 at home against the Wilmington Blue Rocks at 7:05 and welcome Jerome Bettis to BB&T Coastal Field on April 14. Season tickets, mini-plans, flex books, picnics and other group outings are available now.
