Myrtle Beach Pelicans (10-9) vs. Lynchburg Hillcats (7-11)

Wednesday, April 23 -- 7:05 PM

BB&T Coastal Field -- Myrtle Beach, SC

Game #20, Home Game #9

TODAY'S GAME AT A GLANCE: The Pelicans will look to win their fourth series of the season in the rubber game against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Last night, the Pelicans used a three-run second inning to run away from the Hillcats and win game two 5-2. Starting pitcher Ryne Reynoso and reliever Chris Vines combined to silence the Hillcats at the plate all throughout the night.

Tonight is Pennsylvania night at BB&T Coastal Field. The Pelicans will celebrate all the great aspects of the Keystone state.

TODAY'S STARTING PITCHERS: The Pelicans will send Gonzalo Lopez to the mound for his fifth start overall start and third at BB&T Coastal Field. The Hillcats will counter with much heralded lefty Daniel Moskos, who is making his fourth start of the year.

Lopez: Dialed in his best outing of the season in his last start against the Kinston Indians on April 18th. On the season, Lopez holds an 0-2 record with a 4.61 ERA. In 13.2 innings, he has allowed 13 hits and seven runs. Lopez has good control of his pitches as evident by his 12:5 strikeout to walk ratio.

A native of Managua, Nicaragua, Lopez has been in the Atlanta Braves organization since he was signed as a free agent in July of 2000. He has made stops in the Gulf Coast League (Braves), South Atlantic League (Macon/Rome) and the Carolina League (Myrtle Beach). His best season was in 2004 when he went 8-5 with a 3.67 for the Rome Braves.

Moskos: The Greenville, S.C. native has turned in three solid starts in the early season. In his most recent outing, he went a season long 6.0 innings against the Salem Avalanche. He allowed just three hits and a run. Tonight will mark his third road start of the season.

Moskos was the 4th overall pick in the 2007 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He attended Clemson, where he posted a 3.25 career ERA in 81 appearances for the Tigers. He finished his career fourth on the all-time saves list with 16.

HEALTHY HICKS: Pelicans shortstop Brandon Hicks returned to the starting lineup last night after nearly 11 days away. Hicks was battling a nagging quadricep injury. The last time he played before last night was on April 11th (home opener). In last night's game, Hicks went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. In the first inning, he slammed a single back up the middle to put the Pelicans up comfortably 3-0. Then in the fifth he added another hard single to prove he is 100-percent healthy.

ON THE LEADERBOARD: Right-hander Tommy Hanson has been the most dominant pitcher in the Carolina League through his first four starts. His historic run continued Saturday night as he worked six scoreless one-hit innings. Hanson currently leads the Carolina League in innings pitched prior to allowing an earned run (22 IP), strikeouts (32) and boasts two 11-inning scoreless inning streaks including his current string. The 21-year old has permitted just five hits this season. Hanson was named Carolina Leauge Pitcher of the Week (4/14-4/20).

Gorkys Hernandez boasts eight multi-hit games including 2-for-4 in the series opener. He currently shares the league lead in a pair of prominent categories with two Lynchburg Hillcats. Hernandez and Jim Negrych lead the loop with 23 total hits, while the Pelicans center fielder and Lynchburg's Kent Sakamoto each have collected 11 extra-base hits. Hernandez leads alone in triples, swatting his league-best fifth last night.
