
Pelicans Fan Fest Is Saturday At Noon

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will usher in their upcoming 10th anniversary season when they hold the 2008 Pelicans Fan Fest at BB&T Coastal Field this Saturday, February 23rd. The event will be held from Noon - 3 PM in conjunction with the Pelicans National Anthem tryouts.
National Anthem tryouts will be conducted on the field at BB&T Coastal Field, as those vocally-inclined fans have the chance to earn an opportunity to sing the National Anthem prior to a Pelicans home game during the 2008 season. All contestants will perform the National Anthem a capella for a panel of celebrity judges. Contestants will have the chance to perform as individuals or as part of a group. Choirs and bands are strongly encouraged to try out. Interested performers should register for the Pelicans National Anthem Tryouts by e-mailing Pelicans Director of Community Relations Julie Borshak at jborshak@myrtlebeachpelicans.com. Registration will also be taken at the event for those that still wish to participate in National Anthem Tryouts. Those contestants that are unable to attend the tryouts will still be eligible by sending an audio CD/Cassette to the Pelicans at 1251 21st Ave. North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

2008 Pelicans Fan Fest offers fans the chance to return to and explore the ballpark. Pelicans' representatives will be leading guided tours of BB&T Coastal Field throughout the event, including a behind the scenes look at both the home and road clubhouses.
Pelicans' manager Rocket Wheeler will be on hand to sign autographs, pose for pictures and talk about his third season at the helm of the Advanced-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Dinger "The Home Run Dog" will also be available for pictures throughout Fan Fest.
The Pelicans Pro Shop will be holding a pre-season sale featuring great discounts on Pelicans apparel, memorabilia and other merchandise. Pelicans Fan Fest is a great chance for fans to be first in line to get 2008 California-Carolina League All-Star Game merchandise. Also featured at the Pelicans Pro Shop during Fan Fest is the entire new line of Pelicans apparel and merchandise. The Pelicans new merchandise line is full of fresh designs and colors geared specifically to the baseball fan, while also incorporating traditional beach themes.
Pelicans Fan Fest will offer a wide-variety of activities for the younger fans. Kids can have their faces painted at the ballpark, feel like the pros by playing catch on the field or compete in the dizzy bat race and other Pelicans on-field promotions. Pelicans' representatives will also be signing youngsters up for the Pelicans Kid's Club, which offers exclusive membership benefits for the 2008 season.
The Pelicans open the 2008 season on Friday, April 4th on the road against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. The 2008 Home Opener is slated for 7:05 PM on Friday, April 11th as the Pelicans welcome in the defending Carolina League champion Frederick Keys.
