
Pelicans Fall 7-1 to Wood Ducks

Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were held to just a single run in a 7-1 loss to the Down East Wood Ducks on Friday night. The fifth loss in their last six games drops the Birds to a 56-43 record and 17-17 in the second half. Down East improved to 54-41 and also stand at 17-17 in the back half of the season.
Myrtle Beach's lone run came from an RBI single from Andy Garriola (1-4, RBI) in the top of the eighth. Jefferson Rojas (2-5, 2B) and Pedro Ramirez (2-3, BB) each posted multi-hit games as the Pelicans left 11 runners on base and went 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
It was a clean first three innings for Grant Kipp (3-7) before allowing three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take the loss. Scarlyn Lebron followed with three more earned runs across his 2 1/3 innings.
The standout hitter for the Wood Ducks was Miguel Villarroel (2-4, 3B, 3 RBI) with three runs driven in off a two-run triple and an RBI single. Anthony Gutierrez (1-4, 2 RBI) brought home two in the Wood Ducks' third win of the week.
Starter Joseph Montalvo (7-1) lasted five innings without giving up a hit and striking out five to earn the win. Alberto Mota collected a save by shutting the door in the final 1 1/3 innings to keep the Pelicans at just one run.
Saturday will feature the fifth game of the series at 5:00 p.m.
