Pensacola answered a Fort Worth rally with one of their own in a 5-4 win over the Cats Wednesday night at LaGrave Field.

The loss dropped the Cats' record to 30-14, a game after clinching the first-half title. Pensacola's second-place record improved to 26-18.

Two batters later, Jose Salas drove an RBI double to right-center field, scoring Smith and giving the Pelicans a 5-4 lead.

Josh Courage (3-1) was awarded the victory after pitching an effective ninth inning to close out the game.

The Cats led early 1-0, but Pensacola got two runs in the fourth on a Carlos Mendoza run-scoring single and a Juan Rocha home run. They would add another tally in the sixth when Rocha drove home his second run of the game with an RBI single.

The score remained 3-1 until the eighth, when, with two outs, John Allen hit a bases-clearing double to the left-field corner to give the Cats a brief 4-3 lead before the Pelicans came back in the ninth.
