(Allentown, PA) - Three-time Cy Young Award winner Pedro Martinez is expected to continue his rehab today by throwing an afternoon bullpen session at Coca-Cola Park at approximately 4:30 p.m. The IronPigs will open the gates early at 4:30 p.m. as a courtesy to their fans with tickets to tonight's contest. Only the Main Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. Club Level holders may enter through the Main Gates although Club Level access will not be available until 5:30 p.m.
Only a limited number of General Admission tickets remain for tonight's 7:05 p.m. game against the Columbus Clippers at Coca-Cola Park and they can be purchased in-person at Coca-Cola Park, by calling (610) 841-PIGS or online at ironpigsbaseball.com. "We want to offer our passionate fan base with a rare opportunity to watch Pedro Martinez practice at Coca-Cola Park," exclaimed IronPigs General Manager Kurt Landes. "We are constantly looking for ways to thank our fans for their unrivaled support and this presented a unique occasion."
The Phillies signed Martinez, 37, on July 15 to a one-year deal and immediately placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a mild shoulder strain. He began his rehab with Class-A Clearwater this past Sunday but had his scoreless outing cut short after just an inning and a third due to rain.
In addition to being a three-time Cy Young Award winner (1997, 1999, 2000), Martinez is also seven-time All-Star (1996-99, 2002, 2005-06). For his career, Martinez has a record of 214-99 (.684) with a 2.91 ERA in 467 games (400 starts) for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1992-93), Montreal Expos (1994-97), Boston Red Sox (1998-2004) and New York Mets (2005-08). Last year, he went 5-6 with a 5.61 ERA in 20 starts for the Mets and this past March he pitched for the Dominican Republic team in the World Baseball Classic.
Also on Tuesday at Coca-Cola Park, the first 3,000 adults will receive an IronPigs Cap courtesy of Service Electric. Tuesday is also Faith Night featuring the Veggie Tales presented by Hackman's Bible Book Store.
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs are dedicated to providing family-friendly entertainment and are the only Minor League team to offer bubbles to fans entering the AT&T Plaza and balloons for all children exiting Coca-Cola Park.
Fans are reminded that there are three entry points for parking and are encouraged to use the Dauphin Street entrance when traveling from downtown Allentown. In addition to the Dauphin Street entrance, entry to Coca-Cola Park can be gained off American Parkway and Union Boulevard. Preferred/Handicapped Parking access is available via
American Parkway only.
