PCL Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today announced Memphis Redbirds infielder Josh Phelps as the PCL Hitter of the Week for the week of July 28th- August 3rd. Portland Beavers pitcher Wade LeBlanc has been named the PCL Pitcher of the Week for July 28th- August 3rd.

Phelps, an Anchorage, Alaska native, put on an impressive power display this week homering in four straight games with a total of seven for the week and finished with 15 RBI and nine runs scored. Against Tacoma on July 28th, he went an impressive three-for-five with two home runs and seven RBI. The following night against the Rainiers he slugged three solo home runs and finished three-for-three on the night. Selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the tenth round of the 1996 draft, Phelps is in his first year with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Phelps is currently hitting .281 with 25 home runs and 81 RBI on the season.

Left-hander Wade LeBlanc is the first PCL pitcher to win the pitcher of the week award twice during the 2008 season. The Lake Charles, Louisiana native previously won the award for the week of May 26th-June 2nd. LeBlanc tossed five shutouts innings against Nashville on July 28th struck out six batters and allowed two hits to earn the victory. Against Albuquerque on August 2nd he tossed eight shutout innings and struck out eleven batters and allowed two hits. LeBlanc, ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the San Diego organization by Baseball America going into the 2008 season, was drafted in the second round of the 2006 draft by the Padres.
