PCL Attendance Warming Up

Published on June 3, 2003 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo -- With spring spreading across the country, Pacific Coast League attendances look to be heating up along with the weather, as more than 2.3 million fans have visited PCL ballparks since the season began, a total that's up from last year by almost 200,000.

Leading the way is Memphis, drawing 324,868 Redbirds faithful to AutoZone Park so far this season, the only team in Minor League Baseball to draw that many through May. Meanwhile, Sacramento is tops in the PCL in average attendance with 10,391fans per game, up from April by 1,100.

The most dramatic example can be found in Nashville, which is enjoying an increase of 1,700 fans per game over last year. Albuquerque's love affair with the Isotopes is also still strong, as an average of 7,597 visit Isotopes Park every game. As warmer weather has reached some of the League's colder climes, attendance increases have occurred in Salt Lake and Edmonton, which have both seen their average attendance grow by better than 1,000 fans in the month of May.

In comparison to attendance at this time last year, in which a new Pacific Coast League attendance record was set, the per-game attendance this year has increased by more than 150 patrons.

By continuing at this pace, the Pacific Coast League will break its all-time attendance record for the fourth consecutive year by surpassing last year's mark of 6,796,545 fans.
