Louisville Fire News Release

Most people do not get a whole lot done while lying flat on their back. Louisville Fire wide receiver/linebacker Anthony Payton is not most people. Payton made the game winning touchdown catch off the net while lying flat on his back to tie the game 47-47 with no time left on the clock Saturday night, kicker Marc Samuel sealed the victory his extra point to make the final score 48-47.

Payton, 6'2, 220, Kentucky Wesleyan, scored five touchdowns Saturday night, three receiving and two rushing. Payton finished the night with 11 receptions for 93 yards and three rushes for seven yards. He had game highs in receiving, rushing and touchdowns. Over the last three games Payton has been a major factor on the Fire's offense totaling 29 receptions for 336 yards and nine total touchdowns.

"With Tony Stallings out and Ryan Russell going down with an injury someone had to step up and make the plays. Payton has been their when we need a big play especially on Saturday night," commented Fire Head Coach Tommy Johnson.

This is the fourth weekly award for the Fire this season. San Diego's wide receiver/defensive back Nakoa McElrath and Peoria wide receiver/linebacker Lawrence Matthews won US Army Ironman and ADT Defensive player of the week respectively.

The Fire will face the Quad City Steamwheelers (6-2) on Saturday night at 7:30 in Freedom Hall. The first 1,500 kids 14 and under will receive an official Fire replica jersey courtesy of Fifth Third bank. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling (502) 368-0009 or visiting Ticketmaster.com.
