Manchester Wolves News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. (June 2, 2004) - The arenafootball2 league office announced today that defensive back Rob Carey and kicker Kurt Hintz have been assigned to the Manchester Wolves, New England's newest professional football team. Both players will practice with the team this week as the Wolves prepare to hit the road for their next game this Saturday night, June 5, against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers.

Carey comes to the Wolves after recently finishing up an ultra-successful college career at Lock Haven (Pa.) University. Carey was a four-year starter for the Bald Eagles at defensive back, recording 278 career tackles, 11 interceptions and 30 pass breakups. The 5-10, 175-pound native of North Braddock, PA native was a four-time member of the All-PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) West First Team as a defensive back. He was also a three-time All-PSAC West honoree as a return specialist. As a senior in 2003, Carey collected 59 tackles, splitting time between strong safety and cornerback. He also added an interception, three pass breakups, a forced fumble and two blocked field goals.

"Rob is a young guy who's obviously new to this type of football, but he's got a lot of talent," Wolves Head Coach Rik Richards said. "I think if he's a good student of the game and absorbs what we're teaching him, he can be a nice addition for us."

Hintz is another new face looking to make his mark with the Wolves this week by hitting the mark. Hintz, a 6-3, 210-pound kicker from the University of Iowa, will try to bring some consistency to the Wolves' kicking game. Hintz has most recently played semi-professionally for the Racine Raiders of the North American Football League (NAFL). In 2003, he converted 15-of-23 field goals, including a long of 47 yards. He also connected on 40-of-44 extra points. Hintz replaces John Gockman from Illinois, who replaced Jesse Obert just over a week ago. Gockman struggled in his first arena football game on Friday against Green Bay, missing three extra points and a critical 20-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter.
