PawSox Top Knights in Game 1 of I.L. Finals
September 11, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
The PawSox are in the Governors' Cup Finals for the first time since 2003. On Tuesday night They looked like old pros, thumping Charlotte 7-2. Knuckleballer Steven Wright worked 7 solid innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. Wright struck out 6 hitters. Alex Wilson and Josh Fields each contributed a scoreless inning of relief. They also combined for three strikeouts.
The PawSox may have caught an early break. With one out in the top of the first, starting pitcher Charlie Leesman collided with first baseman Seth Loman. Leesman suffered an apparent injury to his left leg, forcing him to leave the game. No further word on his condition was being released after the game on Tuesday night. Andre Rienzo, scheduled to start on Wednesday, came in and eventually took the loss. The PawSox hit three homers. Danny Valencia went deep in the third and Tony Thomas and J.C. Linares went back to back in the seventh inning.
The series continues on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Zach Stewart will face Charlie Shirek at McCoy.
