Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats (9-9-1-0) got goals from up and down the lineup as they trounced Prince Albert Raiders (8-12-0-0) by an 8-3 score.
First Period
The hosts got off to a quick start to the contest when Jordan Tkatch got a hold of the puck in front and his shot popped over Daniel Wapple to open the scoring under two minutes in. With the play going end to end, the Pats jumped on the board when Adam Brooks scored on a breakaway near the six minute mark. After being thwarted on their first powerplay opportunity of the game, the Blue and White found the go ahead goal down a man. Morgan Klimchuk forced the puck out of the Pats zone and found himself on a breakaway. The sniper was stopped on his first shot by Rylan Parenteau, but he slid the rebound to the back of the net at 15:49 of the frame for a 2-1 Regina lead after one. The goaltenders were busy in the frame with Prince Albert outshooting Regina 19-14.
Second Period
The Pats shocked the Raiders by scoring six goals second. Pavel Padakin started it just over a minute in when Austin Wagner hustled down the ice to grab the puck from a Raiders defender and feed Padakin in front. Connor Gay ended Parenteau's night when he came in off the wing and buried on the short side for the Pats' fourth goal. Nick McBride stepped between the pipes and was greeted Padakin who found his second of the night. Kyle Burroughs' point shot rebounded off Gage Quinney and into the goal to make it 6-1 Regina. With a pair of assists already, Austin Wagner got in all alone and made a quick move to the forehand before scoring his fifth of the year. James Hilsendager rounded out the scoring by notching the first of his WHL career for an 8-1 lead after two periods. Rykr Cole nabbed an assist on the marker for his first WHL point. Shots still sat in the Raiders favour, 28-26 through two periods.
Third Period
The Pats nearly added to their lead early in the frame on a flurry of chances, but Nick McBride turned away three shots in quick succession to hold the line. Prince Albert got back on the board when defenceman Sawyer Lange made a slick move to cut in front of the Pats net and beat Daniel Wapple. Dylan Stewart followed that up with a marker of his own to pull the score to 8-3. Prince Albert led the final shots on goal, 44-40 as Daniel Wapple made 41 saves on the night for the win.
The Pats return home this weekend. Tickets for their contests against Medicine Hat and Seattle are available at Ticketmaster.ca, the Brandt Centre Box Office and Safeway locations around Regina.
