Regina Pats News Release

REGINA - The Regina Pats will select 10th overall in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.

The WHL announced the results of its draft lottery on Wednesday, as teams look forward to where they'll pick in the upcoming Draft, which is scheduled for Thursday, December 9.

The Pats will select 8th in the second round and all subsequent rounds, not including those picks previously traded.

Since 1990, the Pats have had 11 previous top 10 picks. Regina's 10th overall selection will be just the third time in the last decade the Pats have secured a top 10 pick. Connor Bedard was taken first overall in last year's Draft, as the first exceptional status player in WHL history. Prior to that, Sam Steel was selected second overall in the 2013 Draft.

The 2021 WHL Prospects Draft will also mark the fifth time in franchise history the Pats have secured top 10 picks in back-to-back seasons (2010/2009, 2005/2004, 2000/1999, 1995/1994).

December's Draft will feature 2006-born players. The event is traditionally staged in May, but was moved to allow players to showcase their talents this coming fall following widespread season disruptions during 2020-21 due to COVID-19.
