GAME NOTES

The Regiment are coming off an impressive home-and-home sweep of the Prince Albert Raiders. The Pats captured a 3-1 win on Friday, followed by a 5-2 win at home on Saturday. Regina is 2-0 to start the regular season for the first time since 2011-2012, when they swept the Swift Current Broncos to start the year. This has happened three times since 1996-1997 (1999, 2007, 2011). The Pats have not gone 3-0 to start their season in recent play (as far as 1996-97).

Sloan Stanick (2G-1A) and Cole Carrier (1G-2A) were the talk of Saturday's 5-2 win, with each recording a career-high three points and Stanick scoring a career-high two goals. The Pats also got goals in that game from Zack Stringer and Connor Bedard, while Matthew Kieper stopped 19 of 21 to pick up wins on consecutive nights. The Pats power-play went 2-for-4, while the penalty kill was 6-for-7 in the win. Final shots were 34-21 Regina.

THE ICE

On the other side, the Winnipeg ICE come into today's play following back-to-back blowout wins over the Brandon Wheat Kings in their opening weekend, winning 10-2 and 7-1. Owen Pederson was named the WHL Player of the Week on Monday, scoring three goals and three assists for six points in two games. The ICE have two other forwards in the top five in scoring alongside Pederson, with Mikey Milne (2G-3A) and Skyler Bruce (3G-1A). Minnesota Wild first-rounder Carson Lambos leads all defencemen in scoring with four points. Winnipeg also got goaltender Gage Alexander back from the Anaheim Ducks training camp on Tuesday.
