Pats lose in overtime

First Period

Dryden Hunt put one in the back of the net on a sharp angle to open the scoring. Hunt ' s 21st of the season was set up by Carter Hansen and Chandler Stephenson. The Blue and White went on their first man-advantage of the game when Chad Robinson was called for holding at 7:20. With 10 seconds left in the Pats ' power play, Dmitry Sinitsyn let go a howitzer from the point and put the home team ahead by two. Peter Quenneville responded for the visitors, cutting the Pats lead in half. Richard Nejezchleb was assessed a slashing minor with just over two minutes left in the stanza. The Pats ' Connor Gay wired the puck home on the power play to put the home team up 3-1 at the end of 20 minutes.

Second Period

The two teams traded off power plays in the second with the Wheat Kings cashing in on their opportunity courtesy of Nejezchleb. Wheat Kings forward Ryley Lindgren sat for kneeing at 12:44 of the stanza. On the power play, Boston Leier had an excellent scoring chance from the slot but Jordan Papirny flashed the leather and robbed the forward. Lindgren returned to the ice to bring his team back to even strength, and that was all she wrote for the second frame. After two, the Pats led the Wheat Kings, 3-2.

Third Period

Throughout the first half of the final frame, the goaltenders stole the show. At the midway point, the Pats ' Dawson MacAuley made five saves while Papirny denied four shots. With 1:28 left in the game, the Wheat Kings pulled Papirny for the extra attacker, and Quenneville scored the tying goal to force overtime.

Overtime

In overtime, the Pats had a pair of two-on-one chances to close out the game, but they couldn ' t solve the Wheat Kings ' goaltender. To the displeasure of the crowd, Stephenson was given the gate for tripping at 1:51 of the extra frame. Twenty-seven seconds later, Eric Roy scored the game winning goal to lift the Wheat Kings to a 4-3 win over the Pats.
