Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats Hockey Club announced its End of Year Award Winners this evening ahead of the final home game of the season against the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Pats presented ten awards recognizing the individual accomplishments of members of the team.
Player of the Year - Dyson Stevenson Pats overage forward Dyson Stevenson posted a career year in every category. The Shaunavon, SK product more than doubled his goal total (38) and set new highs in assists (38), penalty minutes (121) and plus/minus (+23). Stevenson always seemed to bring his best game when the team needed him most, leading the Pats with 7 game winning goals and led the Pats in powerplay goals with 16 this season. 2012-13 Award Winner: Lane Scheidl
Charles Johnston Memorial Top Defenceman - Kyle Burroughs For the second year in a row, Kyle Burroughs proved his value to the Pats' back-end with another stellar season. In his first year as Captain of the team, the New York Islanders' prospect set career highs in goals, assists and plus/minus this season despite playing fewer games. All of that accomplished while shutting down some of the league's top offensive threats. 2012-13 Award Winner: Kyle Burroughs
Rick Rypien Memorial Award (Unsung Hero) - Boston Leier When he arrived in Regina early in the season, Boston Leier made an immediate impact scoring at a torrid pace and leading the Pats in goals up to the Christmas break. That pace cooled slightly in the second half, but Leier is valuable to the Pats beyond scoring by providing tenacity and leadership every time he steps on the ice. 2012-13 Award Winner: Matt Hewitt
Nick Papas Rookie of the Year - Dmitry Sinitsyn Russian defenceman Dmitry Sinitsyn proved to be a key addition at the 2013 CHL Import Draft. The Moscow native leads the Pats defence in scoring coming into tonight's game with 42 points (8G, 34A) and is a +8 plus/minus rating. 2012-13 Award Winner: Teagan Sacher
Hub Bishop Most Sportsmanlike - Morgan Klimchuk Calgary Flames prospect Morgan Klimchuk faced adversity this year dealing with multiple injuries, but persevered to reach a new career high in points per game and features a +28 plus/minus. Klimchuk didn't spend much time in the penalty box this season with only 27 PIM on the season while racking up 22 points on the powerplay. 2012-13 Award Winner: Morgan Klimchuk
Mike Kartusch Community Service Award - Dyson Stevenson Dyson Stevenson made his presence felt on and off the ice in his time as a Regina Pat. Dyson spent time reading to children, making presentations on the dangers of drug use, serving meals for troubled youth and in many more ways, making him a fantastic representative of the team in the community. 2012-13 Award Winner: Colton Jobke
Bill Hicke Most Popular Player - Dyson Stevenson Scoring goals, dropping the gloves and spending time with his fans made Dyson Stevenson one of the faces of the Regina Pats the last few years. In his first game at the Brandt Centre, Stevenson became a quick fan favourite and continued to build on that popularity throughout his career. 2012-13 Award Winner: Matt Hewitt
Scholastic Player of the Year - Griffin Mumby For the second straight year, defenceman Griffin Mumby showed his smarts at the rink and in the classroom, achieving the highest grade average among his teammates. Mumby scored his first WHL goal this season and played his 100th career game February 28th vs. Swift Current. 2012-13 Award Winner: Griffin Mumby
Torchey Schell Top Scorer Award - Chandler Stephenson After a successful training camp and pre-season with the Washington Capitals, Chandler Stephenson started racking up points upon his return and didn't stop. The Saskatoon, SK product comes into tonight with 87 points (30G, 57A), boasting career highs in all offensive categories, leading the league with 8 shorthanded goals and is 14th in league scoring. Stephenson has 193 points (73G, 120A) in 228 games with the Regina Pats. 2012-13 Award Winner: Lane Scheidl
Molson Cup Award - Boston Leier Since his arrival from the Medicine Hat Tigers, Boston Leier has had a penchant for scoring big goals in regulation and the shootout. Leier comes into tonight with a career high 32 goals to his name and leads this league in both shootout goals (6) and shootout winners (4) helping him to 33 points atop the Molson Cup Standing. Chandler Stephenson and Morgan Klimchuk finished behind Leier to round out the top three. 2012-13 Award Winner: Lane Scheidl
