Pats Announce End of Year Award Winners

Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats Hockey Club announced its End of Year Award Winners this evening ahead of the final home game of the season against the Swift Current Broncos. The Pats presented ten awards recognizing the individual accomplishments of members of the team.

Player of the Year - Lane Scheidl Pats overage forward Lane Scheidl led the team in scoring for most of the 2012-13 campaign while providing the Pats with exemplary leadership on and off the ice. Through 70 games this season, the Saskatoon, SK product set new career highs with 39 goals and 39 assists. 2011-12 Award Winner: Jordan Weal

Charles Johnston Memorial Top Defenceman - Kyle Burroughs With injuries to key members of the defence, the Pats needed someone to step up and Kyle Burroughs did just that. The second year player out of Langley, B.C. leads the Pats blue-line with 33 points (5G, 28A) in 68 games. Burroughs' strong play in his own end helped anchor the Pats defence, especially in the second half of the season. 2011-12 Award Winner: Brandon Davidson

Rick Rypien Memorial Award (Unsung Hero) - Matt Hewitt With a young team in front of him, Matt Hewitt was called upon to be at his best every night and the Pats goaltender rose to the challenge. Appearing in 53 games so far this season; Hewitt faced over 1,700 shots while battling his way to a 3.37 GAA, a 0.903 SV% and two shutouts on the season. 2011-12 Award Winner: Art Bidlevskii

Nick Papas Rookie of the Year - Teagan Sacher Rookie netminder Teagan Sacher proved early on in the season he was a good option for the Pats to give Matt Hewitt some games off. Sacher's play on the Pats' West Coast trip helped the Blue and White to a pair of victories on the long swing and he heads into the final games of the season with a 3.77 GAA, 0.887 SV% and a shutout on the year. 2011-12 Award Winner: Morgan Klimchuk

Hub Bishop Most Sportsmanlike - Morgan Klimchuk Morgan Klimchuk enjoyed a breakout season in his second year in the WHL. Through 70 games, 18-year old forward tallied 36 goals and 39 assists to sit second on the Pats in scoring. While working his way up the 2013 NHL Draft Rankings; the Calgary, AB native stayed out of the penalty box with only 20 PIMs on the campaign. 2011-12 Award Winner: Chandler Stephenson

Mike Kartusch Community Service Award - Colton Jobke Despite an injury shortened season, Pats Captain Colton Jobke made his presence felt around the community of Regina. The Minnesota Wild prospect spent time at the Food Bank, visiting schools and participating in many other projects making a difference around the Queen City. On the ice, Jobke totaled 18 points (3G, 15A) in 29 games. 2011-12 Award Winner: Tanner Olstad

Bill Hicke Most Popular Player - Matt Hewitt Voted on by Regina Pats fans last week, Matt Hewitt was the overwhelming choice among the Pats' faithful. The New Westminster, B.C. product played for three seasons in Regina (2010-2013) appearing in nearly 150 games in his time with the Pats organization. 2011-12 Award Winner: Jordan Weal

Scholastic Player of the Year - Griffin Mumby Pats 16-year old rookie Griffin Mumby was solid on the ice playing in a role larger than his age would normally warrant. He also excelled in the classroom with an average of 92% to be the Pats' Scholastic Player of the Year. 2011-12 Award Winner: Jack Rodewald

Torchey Schell Top Scorer Award Lane Scheidl and Morgan Klimchuk were neck and neck the whole season when it came to their point totals. Scheidl pulled away in the final weeks of the season displaying the play that earned him the Pats Player of the Year award. Coming into the final two games of the season, Scheidl leads the scoring race with 78 points with Klimchuk right 2011-12 Award Winner: Jordan Weal

Molson Cup Award The Molson Cup has been a back and forth battle right to the end with Lane Scheidl and Matt Hewitt tied heading into the final two games of the season. Chandler Stephenson took third place in the Molson Cup Race. 2011-12 Award Winner: Jordan Weal
