Patroons Sign Tony Key

Albany, NY (October 12, 2007) - The Albany Patroons welcome 6'10" center, Tony Key.

Tony's awards and achievements began in high school as he was the 2000 HS Runner-up for Mr. Basketball Kentucky, as well as HS First Team All-State and Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook's Top 44 High School Players (2000). Tony transferred to a high school in California for his senior year and averaged 26 ppg. and 14 rpg. Tony was a 2001 NBA candidate, but was not drafted. Former Patroon Jamario Moon was also a 2001 NBA candidate.

Because Tony was an NBA candidate he forfeited his NCAA eligibility. Tony went on to play for the Los Angeles City College (CJCAA), where he was All-CJCAA Final Tournament Team (2002) as well as a CJCAA Finalist (2002). Tony then played for the Mountain State Cougars of the NAIA, where he played in the 2005 NAIA National Tournament Quarterfinals.

His professional basketball career began in March of '06 when he signed with the Montreal Matrix (CAN-ABA), where he averaged 18.5 ppg., 8.9 rpg., and 1.2 bpg. His next stop was with the Santos Reales de San Luis Potosi (MEX-LNBP, 1T), where he averaged 18.3 ppg., 6.5 rpg., and 1.0bpg.

Prior to signing with the Patroons, Tony played with the Houston Blaze (touring team).
