
Q95 FM to carry Miner home games

PIKEVILLE, KY. - Q95 FM (WQHY, 95.5) and the East Kentucky Miners have reached a broadcast deal for the 2007-08 season. Miner home games will be heard on 95.5 FM beginning Sunday, Nov. 18 when East Kentucky hosts the Pittsburgh Xplosion in its home debut. The Miners are an expansion team in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA).
Q95 FM - a 100,000-watt station based out of Prestonsburg - prides itself on being East Kentucky's most listened to radio station. The East Kentucky station has carried University of Kentucky basketball and football and Cincinnati Reds baseball. Q95 continues to be the home of UK men's basketball and football.
Gormon Collins, Jr., Q95 General Manager, welcomed the opportunity to carry Miner basketball.
"Dating back to when my dad (Gormon Collins, Sr.) started the station, we've always been a sports station," said Collins. "We've carried the University of Kentucky Wildcats and Cincinnati Reds as well as high school sports. Now, we're even more excited that we'll have the opportunity to bring the games of the East Kentucky Miners - the area's first professional basketball team - to our listeners."
Q95 will air Miner home games in their entirety with 15-minute pregame and a 15-minute postgame segments.
"This is an exciting time for the East Kentucky Miners organization as a whole," commented East Kentucky Miners Coach Kevin Keathley. "Q95 has always shown a great commitment to Eastern Kentucky Sports. I couldn't be more excited to make Q95 the home of the East Kentucky Miners."
The Miners have 24 home games scheduled for the 2007-08 season. East Kentucky will play all of its home games at the East Kentucky Expo Center. The Miners will open play in their debut season on Friday, Nov. 16 on the road versus the Pittsburgh Xplosion.
