East Kentucky Miners News Release
PIKEVILLE, KY. - The East Kentucky Miners became the first CBA (Continental Basketball Association) team to win 10 games in the 2008-09 season Sunday after posting a hard-fought 117-116 win over the Albany Patroons. East Kentucky finished the historic CBA-ABA Interleague Challenge 9-0. The Miners posted wins over five different ABA teams from four different states as part of the Interleague Challenge. East Kentucky defeated Albany for its first CBA win Sunday, improving to 10-4. The Miners ultimately split a home series (1-1) against a talented Albany team.
"We're nearly midway through the season now and we'll look to maintain this momentum the rest of the way," said East Kentucky Coach Kevin Keathley. "Hopefully, this will put us in a good position to finish out the season strong." First-year East Kentucky player Jermaine Blackburn claimed a CBA Player of the Week honor in December. Keathley was named the CBA Coach of the Month for the month of December.
East Kentucky is set to travel to Albany for a three-game series. The Miners are due to host their next home game Feb. 5 at the East Kentucky Expo Center.
