Patroons fall to Xplosion, 108-104

The Albany Patroons' 7-game home winning streak ended tonight, as the Pittsburgh Xplosion, in a close match, took a 108-104 victory over the Patroons. Albany took the first and fouth quarters, and tied the second, to earn 2 1/2 quarterpoints; the Xplosion won the second quarter to claim 4 1/2 quaterpoints.

Albany actually won the first quarter when, with the score tied 28-all, Chad Timberlake's running floater with seconds left on the clock gave Albany a 30-28 quarter win.

The Xplosion was able to tie the second quarter with some last-second heroics of their own; when Chaz McCrommon stole the ball and, as he passed the halfcourt line, heaved a prayer that went in, a 3-point basket that tied the game.

With seconds ticking down in the fourth quarter, Albany's Jamaal Miller made two free throws to bring the Patroons to a 104-103 deficit; however, the Pats committed a delay of game in the final seconds when Nat Burton stepped over the end line while trying to rebound the ball, earning a delay of game technical foul, and allowing Pittsburgh to score on a technical foul shot by Shaun Fountain, Fountain was able to convert the final four free throws of the game to seal the victory.

For the Patroons, Nat Burton led all scorers with 27 points; Amal McCaskill earned 22 points and 9 rebounds. The Xplosion were led by Chaz McCrommon with 24 points and 8 rebounds. The Patroons and Xplosion will face each other tomorrow night, Saturday, January 5th.
