Patriots top Surf 5-1 to win South Division Championship

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Atlantic City Surf 5-1 in Game Three of the South Division Series to clinch the South Division Championship.

With the score tied up at 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, left fielder Billy Hall singled and third baseman Jeff Nettles drew a walk to put two runners on base. Right fielder Ryan Radmanovich then hit a three run home run (2) to right center field. Shortstop Kevin Nicholson followed with a solo home run (1) to right center field to give the Patriots a 5-0 lead.

The Surf took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Shortstop Rayner Bautista singled and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly by center fielder Gary Johnson.

Somerset tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Nettles reached on a two-base error and scored on designated hitter Lou Lucca's RBI ground out.

Patriots reliever Robert Marquez (1-0) picked up the win, allowing one hit in an inning pitched. Surf reliever Ben Grezlovski (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on one hit in one inning pitched. Adam Larson recorded the last out of the game for the save.

The Patriots will advance to the Atlantic League Championship Series against the Nashua Pride, who defeated the Long Island Ducks 2-1 in the North Division Series. Game One of the Championship will be at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Friday evening at 7:05 pm.
