Somerset Patriots News Release
New Britain, Connecticut - It took one of the longest games of the season, but the Somerset Patriots (40-26) carried a big night from Ramon Flores to a 7-5 win over the New Britain Bees (33-33) Wednesday night at New Britain Stadium.
The Bees struck first in the bottom of the first inning on a Bijan Rademacher (7) solo home run. The Patriots later tied the game in the third on a two-out RBI single from Jimmy Paredes.
The game was only tied briefly, as Jason Rogers (5) lined a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to put New Britain back in front 3-1.
Somerset took their first lead of the night in the top of the fifth. After Michael Crouse reached on an error to begin the inning, Ramon Flores (4) hit a two-run home run out to right field, tying the game at 3-3. Three hits later, Michael Ohlman grounded an RBI single to put the Patriots ahead 4-3.
New Britain regained the lead in the next half inning. Alejandro De Aza tied things up with an RBI double before Jonathan Galvez put the Bees on top with a two-out RBI single.
The Patriots tied the game in the top of the seventh when Dario Pizzano drew a bases-loaded walk. Somerset still had the bases loaded and no outs after the Pizzano walk, but failed to score and take the lead.
The game went into extra innings tied at five. Both teams failed to score in the 10th inning before Flores (5) hit his second two-run home run of night in the 11th to put the Patriots ahead for good.
James Pugliese (W, 3-0) tossed a scoreless 10th inning, working around an inherited runner at second base with nobody out, to earn the win. Sam Gervacio (L, 2-5) allowed two runs (one earned) to take the loss. Mike Antonini (S, 24) worked a scoreless bottom of the 11th to record the save.
The Somerset Patriots and New Britain Bees conclude their five-game series Wednesday night. First pitch at New Britain Stadium is set for 6:35 p.m.
