Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y.) -The Long Island Ducks were defeated in a doubleheader against the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday evening by scores of 2-0 and 3-2 at Bethpage Ballpark.

Game one was scoreless until the fifth inning when a sacrifice fly by Matt Hagen and an error that scored Joe Burke gave the Patriots a 2-0 lead against Ducks' starter Mark Diapoules.

That was more than enough for Jim Magrane (2-2) who earned the win, tossing five and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and four walks. Diapoules (7-3) took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in four and one-thirds innings. Ryan Houston earned his fourth save of the season with one and one-third scoreless innings to close out the game.

In game two, the Ducks scored first on Ray Navarrete's two-run home run in the opening inning off Pats' starter Nic Ungs. However, Somerset tied the game on a RBI single by Joe Burke in the fourth and a solo homer by Yusuf Carter in the fifth. Justin Huber's run-scoring single in the sixth inning put the Patriots ahead for good at 3-2.

Ungs (4-7) got the win, tossing six innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out two. Zimmermann (1-2) was the hard luck loser, tossing six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while fanning five batters. Houston wrapped up the nightcap with a scoreless inning for his fifth save of the season.

Navarrete led the Flock with two hits over the twinbill with two RBI.
