Patriots Roast Ducks 6-1 in Make-up Game

CENTRAL ISLIP , NY- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Long Island Ducks 6-1 in front of 5,514 fans at Citibank Park on Monday evening. The Patriots struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead when first baseman Josh Pressley slugged a one out two run home run (7) to left after centerfielder Sean Smith led off with a double down the left field line.

The Ducks plated a run in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Patriots lead to 2-1 when second baseman Juan Francia hit a one out single to left, advanced to third on a double down the right field line by centerfielder Lew Ford and scored on an RBI groundout to second by third baseman Ray Navarrete.

Somerset broke the game open with four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead. Smith lined a one out single to center, stole second and after a walk by rightfielder Mike Rodriguez, scored on an RBI single to center by Pressley. Designated hitter Matt Hagen then followed by crushing a three run home run (5) over the left field fence.

Patriots' starter Jim Magrane (6-0) picked up the win, allowing one run on five hits while striking out one and walking two in seven innings of work. Ducks' starter B.J. LaMura (2-4) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits while walking three and striking one in seven innings pitched. With the win the Patriots improved to 28-15 on the 2009 season while the Ducks dropped to 21-21.
