Somerset Patriots News Release
Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the York Revolution 2-1 at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
The Patriots broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning. Third baseman Matt Hagen tripled and scored on an RBI single by Sean Smith to take a 2-1 lead.
York took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Catcher Sandy Aracena doubled and scored on an RBI single by third baseman Matt Padgett.
Somerset tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Center fielder Sean Smith singled and would score on an RBI single by designated hitter Brandon Larson.
Patriots reliever Jason Richardson (1-0) picked up the win with four strikeouts in two scoreless innings pitched. Revolution starter David Gassner (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on eight hits in seven innings pitched. Bret Prinz earned his sixth save of the season for Somerset with a scoreless ninth inning. The save was his third in the last four games.
Patriots starter Scott Wiggins pitched six innings and allowed an earned run on four hits and four strikeouts in a no decision.
The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Friday night with a 7:05 pm game against the York Revolution. The game includes Rally Towels for the first 1,500 fans courtesy of Applegate Farms and Yankees Night.
