Fayetteville Patriots News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. â Hiram Fuller's double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds sparked the victory that the Florida Flame needed to conquer the Patriots on Friday night, 90-84. A sluggish start for Fayetteville gave Florida the surge to spark the win. The Patriots fought hard during the second quarter and ended the half down by one, 49-48, but their performance was not enough to seal the win.
"We dug ourselves a little bit of a hole in the first quarter with the way we came out," Head Coach Mike Brown said. "We fought back, but it was just the tone of the game."
The battle continued throughout the third and fourth quarter with four lead changes and a tied score on three occasions. The Flame had five players in double figures with Kirk Haston being the second leading scorer for Florida with 14 points and seven rebounds. Carl English provided 11 points for Florida and sealed the victory in the fourth quarter with free throws.
The Patriots were led by Tang Hamilton and Mike King, who contributed 18 and 17 points respectively. Ernest Brown also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje gave 14 points off the bench and was 4-for-4 at the free throw line. Omar Cook returned after being out with the flu and provided nine assists for the Patriots.
Mike King offered an optimistic attitude for his team and looks forward to the rematch tomorrow.
The Patriots (7-19) will be battling the Flame (7-17) again tomorrow at home for Military Appreciation Night. Game time is 7:30 p.m. For more information, log onto nbdl.com.
