
Patriots blank Bluefish in 1-0 victory

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots shut out the Bridgeport Bluefish 1-0 before 7,183 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Second baseman George Sandel singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI double by right fielder Pat Boran.
Patriots third baseman Jeff Nettles went 2 for 4 with a double and third baseman Luis Figueroa went 3 for 4 for Bridgeport.
Patriots starter Jason Shiell (3-1) earned the win, allowing six hits in 6.1 scoreless innings pitched and three strikeouts. Bluefish starter Matt Beech (0-1) allowed an earned run on five hits and five strikeouts in five innings pitched.
The Patriots improve to 6-7 in one run games this season and 3-2 in 1-0 games with the victory.
The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish. Saturday 's game includes Baseball Card Strips for the first 2,000 fans in attendance courtesy of Dr. Rick Wright Orthodontics.
