
Pateman, Dotto and Hall Selected as Comcast 2004 UHL All-Star Classic Officials

FORT WAYNE, IN--- The United Hockey League (UHL) and the Fort Wayne Komets (UHL) announced Friday that Jerry Pateman, Domenic Dotto and Hall of Famer Matt Pavelich have been selected as the game officials for the Comcast 2004 UHL All-Star Classic. The official game jerseys were also unveiled and additional details regarding the team selection process were announced.
Pateman will serve as the referee with Dotto and Pavelich serving as the linesmen for the Comcast 2004 UHL All-Star Classic. Pateman has been officiating since he was 14-years-old and worked as a linesman in the National Hockey League (NHL), a linesman and referee in the International Hockey League (IHL) and a referee in the UHL. The Tecumseh, Ontario resident officiated the 1991 NHL All-Star Game in Chicago, Illinois.
Pavelich, the UHL's supervisor of officials for the past six seasons, worked nearly 2,000 NHL games from 1956 through 1979. In 1987, he was the fist linesman ever inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Pavelich resides in Windsor, Ontario.
Dotto's officiating career spans 22 years, including 10 years in the UHL. The Guelph, Ontario native has spent the last three seasons as a supervisor of UHL officials and officiated the 1999 UHL All-Star Classic. Dotto retired as an on ice official in the spring of 2001 after working over 400 UHL games, including four UHL Colonial Cup Finals (1996-2000).
Pavelich, Dotto and Pateman will wear special game uniforms designed by Athletic Knit, "the official uniform supplier of the UHL". Athletic Knit also designed and manufactured the game jerseys. The game jerseys feature the UHL logo, all-star patch and official league colors (red, white and blue).
"With over 75 years of officiating experience between these three gentlemen, I am honored to have them participate in this exciting event," stated President/CEO Richard Brosal.
The team selection process was also announced. Complete details are included with this release (see attached). All media credential requests must be submitted to Chuck Bailey (Fort Wayne Komets) or Lisa M. Peppin (UHL).
"The All-Star Game will showcase the UHL's best talent and Fort Wayne is proud to host the game," said Komets President Michael Franke.
The Fort Wayne Komets, defending 2003 Colonial Cup champions, earned the franchise's first ever Tarry Cup and hosted the largest crowd (10,593) to ever attend a UHL game. The Komets are enjoying their fifth year as a member of the UHL. The Komet franchise, the second oldest franchise in minor league hockey, was a member of the International Hockey League (IHL) for 47 years prior to joining the UHL in 1999 and is celebrating its 52nd year of professional hockey in the Fort Wayne area.
The UHL is celebrating its 13th consecutive season with 12 member clubs in seven states, including the expansion Richmond RiverDogs (Virginia) and Columbus Stars (Ohio).
COMCAST 2004 UHL ALL- STAR CLASSIC SELECTION PROCESS
1. Each UHL head coach will nominate seven players from their own team (one goaltender, two defenseman, three forwards and one rookie) to appear on the official conference ballot (Western or Eastern). Official nomination form will be sent to each head coach on Monday, December 15, 2003.
2. The League Office shall create and distribute an official Western Conference ballot and an Eastern Conference ballot to each member club in their respective conference. Official ballot will be sent to each UHL Member Club on Thursday, December 18, 2003.
3. Each UHL Member Club shall distribute the official ballot to a total of FIVE eligible voters, selected by the Club, and collect the completed ballots. Voters are not allowed to vote for players from their team/city. All ballots must be received by December 31, 2003.
4. The top two players (four defensemen) in each position, per
conference, shall be named to the all-star roster (12 total players).

2 centers
2 right wings
4 defensemen
2 goaltenders
5. The balance of the team (eight remaining players) shall be completed by the all-star coach in each conference and a committee comprised of UHL coaches and the commissioner. The remaining eight players shall include the rookie that received the most votes in each conference.
6. Each UHL team shall have at least TWO representatives.
7. The Eastern Conference All-Star Team and Western Conference All-Star Team will be announced on Monday January 5, 2004.
8. The official starting lineup shall be selected by the fans via the internet (www.theuhl.com). Voting will begin on Monday, January 5, 2004 immediately following the announcement of both teams. Voting will conclude on Monday, January 12, 2004. The starting lineup will be announced on Wednesday, January 14, 2004.
9. The first place coach in each conference as of the final game on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 will be selected as the head coach of his respective conference team. In the event of a tie, the league will utilize playoff tiebreakers: wins, head-to-head wins, head-to-head fewest regulation losses, head-to-head most goals for, head-to-head fewest goals against, coin toss.
