Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - Mason Patel's six scoreless innings led the Traverse City Pit Spitters to their third consecutive win, as they took down the Rockford Rivets 4-2 on Sunday.

Patel pitched a season-high six innings in the win. He struck out five and allowed just three hits, lowering his season ERA to 3.76. It was Patel's second scoreless start this season.

Hunter Tabb delivered the first run of the game in the fourth inning. He singled home Colin Summerhill with two outs for the 1-0 lead. Tabb would add another RBI in the eighth. He has back-to-back games with multiple RBIs, and in five of his last seven games he's recorded multiple RBIs.

Two runners came in to score on wild pitches in the eighth as the Pit Spitters increased their lead to 4-0. The insurance runs would be big as Rockford scored two in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate before Adam Christopher closed the door on the 4-2 win.

Christopher pitched the final three innings of relief. He was on his way to finishing the shutout when Brennan Dorighi lost a one-out fly ball in the sky. The next batter flew out for a sacrifice fly, but it would have ended the game if the previous ball was caught. Traverse City still hasn't pitched a shutout this season.
