Pasquale Named Player of the Game in NHL Top Prospects Event

(Oshawa, ON) Saginaw Spirit netminder Edward Pasquale posted 20 saves on 21 shots in the 2009 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, being named the Player of the Game for Team Cherry. The two-day event pits the top-40 NHL draft eligible prospects from the three leagues of the Canadian Hockey League.

Pasquale entered the week ranked the top North American goalie eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, as determined by NHL Central Scouting Mid-Term Rankings. The 1990-born Toronto native has posted a record of 24-14-0-3 with the Spirit this season, earning a 2.81 goals against average and 0.913 save percentage.

Team Cherry found itself down 5-1 midway through the second period, at which point hockey icon Don Cherry called on Pasquale to anchor the net. Pasquale put a kink in Team Orr's attack, allowing only one goal in 28:59 minutes of play. He turned aside 20 of 21 shots. Team Orr, coached by legendary hockey player Bobby Orr, bested Team Cherry by a score of 6-1 despite the second half effort.
